I also think OP was trying to draw attention to the ridiculous fear-mongering the far-right is creating of queer folks while completely ignoring the real threat of a lack of sensible gun laws. But it's a good point that mentioning queer people in 'the same breath' of a mass shooting = association.

I honestly think your concern also gave people a moment to have a conversation about how important it is to consider how phrasing involves understanding associations our brains make. If you made that association, you're likely not alone. As you said, advertising & peer-reviewed journal rules apply.
