n the 1960's my teenage mother couldn't get birth control or an abortion

She was 20 when I was born, 3rd of 3 boys

She was kicked out of her home & school, & couldn't work

She was called a slut & whore by the white welfare people & her Black church family

We can't go back.

In the 1990's a teen friend at church got pregnant & kept it a secret until she couldn't

One day her family came home to see her holding baby

She had taken bus to hospital, had baby, then told to leave because she had no healthcare. She took bus home w/baby

We can't go back

A person I know who is a preacher preaches against premarital sex & the sin of abortion

Over thirty years ago I was there when he paid for his girlfriend's abortion

Religious leaders & religious gop are passing anti-abortion laws while paying for abortions

We can't go back

We vote democratic to protect everyone, to prevent harm to people who have no voice or because their voices aren't listened to.

Teenagers, poor, foster kids, the abused, and those who simply want what we all have - 100% autonomy over our bodies.

Period.

We can't go back.

One of my mom's dearest friends, who've known each other for over 30 years, both are in their 80s, personally told me the story of one of her high school friends who had a "back ally abortion " who died from it.

Too many young women seem to be completely clueless about all this.

Wasn't that the point, though? For these kinds of deaths to become a thing of the past, such that generations would grow to know nothing of that pain?

By "know nothing of that pain" in terms of not having to personally experience it themselves, absolutely.

But they need to KNOW OF the pain that was inflicted on generations before them, and the fight it took to change it. Same as all history.

But too many don't.
Same as all history.
