People would rather create charter schools (that fail at an alarming rate & don't necessarily offer better education) and/or spend taxpayer dollars to send their kids to private schools than do the 1 easy fix for our public education system: elect Democrats – nationwide, statewide, & locally.

We have 2 middle schools, 6 blocks apart. Serving the exact same neighborhood. The charter school doesn’t have buses, and that gatekeeper all by itself resulted in a $75k/year family income diff. So of course their test scores are better, their kids grew up with bilingual nannies + summer enrichment

There’s nothing intrinsically bad about charter schools. It’s just that they never operate on a level playing field. Maybe they hire teachers who arent certified, so they can pay them 25% less. Or conversely, they take that bus money to overpay teachers, stealing them from their neighbors.

“NACSA research shows that in states that do not require transportation, only 25 percent of new charter school proposals included transportation plans.”

Worst kept secret in education: only 16 states have laws that cover transportation for charters. Ditching buses saves tons of $$, but more importantly serves as a gatekeeper, favoring affluent families that can afford to drop off their kids.

Charters cook the book in everything they do

Yup. And therefore they often get paid way less – and may be less qualified.
