There’s a lot of discussion here lately. Discussion of whose voices are heard, and should be heard. Of what kind of protections are in place for those feeling bullied.

And while no one has said it outright, I can feel the vibe - “Hey, what’s Mark thinking? What’s Mark’s stance on all this?”

Potato leek soup.

I just had some potato leek soup. I has some sourdough bread with butter to accompany it.

And it was delicious.

Why does this matter?

It matters because someone out there probably doesn’t like potato leek soup. Why? I don’t know. Maybe potato leek soup passed over their promotion at work. Maybe potato leek soup looked better in that dress.

Thing is, that’s not potato leek soup’s fault.

Still, someone might try to challenge my stance on potato leek soup. That’s fine, they can, and I’ll win.

Another option is to be open to learning more about potato leek soup. I’m happy to have a discussion on it. And - here’s the kicker - maybe I’ll learn something new that I wasn’t aware of.

Another approach is they can choose to just keep their dislike to themselves, and move on. Always a solid move.

And finally they can choose to be an ass. Regardless of upbringing, background, or level of bacon crispness preference, being an ass is always a bad choice. Not only does it reflect poorly on them, it drags others down. It drags the platform down.

Hey Mark, you can’t tell me to not be an ass.

I can. I did.

But that’s tone polic-

You can throw your tone policing in a sack. Don’t be an ass. Have all the differences of opinion you want. Don’t be an ass.

Some might say that this isn’t a serious thread. To them, I would bring awareness of the fact that potato leek soup is just a silly example of an issue that might cause debate. You could substitute a heartier soup - beef vegetable, for example - and the lesson remains the same.

Don’t be an ass.

Now that's just badass! Go on with your potato leek soup-making self. I like mine with the add-ons of crumbled bacon & grated or shredded cheese. 😋

I respect your right to make homemade potato leek soup and eat and enjoy it.
I, on the other hand, will be eating chicken and rice soup.
But that’s ok.
They are both soup. 😊
