Ladies! Did you know that in 1973 you wouldn't have been able to get a credit card or bank account without your husband's signature? And it would be years after the Equal Credit Opportunity Act passed in 1974 before many banks would abide by the new law.

Yes, and with no husband I had no credit cards. Cash or nothing. It wasn’t that long ago😭

Both her mom AND dad. Black folx, poor city folx, southern and Appalachian people - none trusted the banks, and especially flat-out usury instruments. Slavery, company towns, the Great Depression, and other exploitative beat-downs taught a lot of Americans to trust nothing but cold hard cash.
