Ladies! Did you know that in 1973 you wouldn't have been able to get a credit card or bank account without your husband's signature? And it would be years after the Equal Credit Opportunity Act passed in 1974 before many banks would abide by the new law.

What’s interesting to me is that my mom did have charge cards way before the ‘70s from —-department stores—Wanamaker’s, Gimbles, Lit Brothers. I’m guessing department stores depended on women spending dollars in their stores. Funny how self-interest can bend the rules.

Guessing they granted the credit thru your father (his name is on the card). My mom had those too, only got them in her name after the laws changed. 🙂
