White friend asking me about my father after he mentioned how his dad has fond memories of his childhood. I mentioned it was a bit different for my dad since he had to carry a knife at 7 to defend himself from racist white bullies in the south. Friend angry I mentioned that. It’s part of my history

but the difference is, my father’s experiences makes your ancestors look bad and I’m not going to shut up for your comfort. Friend walked away. Friend no longer friend🤷🏽‍♀️🙄😄

With friends like that, you don't need enemies. I'm sorry that person hurt you. A true friendship, like any committed relationship, means genuine acceptance. Your father's story is a part of you, your narrative. I never refer to a friend as a friend, but rather my chosen sibling.
