Never forget that Social Security & Medicare are savings plans that all workers contribute to from every paycheck their entire working life. (Though it's income capped for the wealthy.) When Republicans say they want to end Social Security they are saying they want to steal your savings.

This is somewhat incorrect. SS is a transfer payment from the working to the retired and disabled. If it was a savings plan they would have had to wait years before the first checks went out but benefits started just about immediately. The excess goes to the trust fund, not a personal account.

Way to be pedantic and completely miss the point.

I didn't miss the point, I corrected an error. Most people think SS is a personal savings account. It isn't. They're not stealing from "your" account. The more likely scheme would be to convert it to personal accounts like W wanted to do. Forcing your to pay management fees to Fidelity and the like.

Yes. Yes you did.

And most people think SS is a personal savings account?

Where does this come from? Who are you talking to?

Well, you got to the crux of it. "Who are you talking to?". It's my wingnut family. It's a matter of gospel to them that if they would be given the money in "their" SS accounts. They could invest it and make far more. I tell them it doesn't work that way and they think I'm the daft one.
