by the time you reach it —
where context requires a simple
translation of two lines of Rilke¹ —
that footnote 98 swerves into a sex scene, automotive metaphors intertwined
with an obsessive focus on letters
& phonetic psychoacoustics,
feels not only unsurprising but inevitable

“an assault on the nature of story.”
—Spin

the introduction — a caution i think against the writer’s life — was giving hella Borges ⇒ immediately sold.
but the layers of obsessive apocryphality are like a pynchon nabokov love child; it’s a rich, sick wonderland.

I will spend the rest of the day just thinking "psychoacoustics" and it's your fault.

It's fun to say out loud, and I'll bet it doesn't show up on my "unusual words" daily calendar ;)

Today's word is "hegira" alternate spelling "hejira", which I know mostly because of the Joni Mitchell album. Are you reading anything interesting? I ask because I am very nosey.

“hegira” is an excellent word!

i tend to start more books than i finish, if you know what i mean. 😂
the one holding my attention right now is danielewski’s “house of leaves” — it’s pointedly insane, but brilliantly executed

how about you?

OH, I am the same! I have soo many books with markers in them because something new came along and I had to start reading it! House of Leaves is on my list, but currently it is in a box while I wait for new shelves to be built.
