William Carlos Williams and Emily Dickinson. Two of my favorite poets. They give me hope that one day someone will read my cinquains and wonder. "WTH is she trying to tell me?" 🙃
I think I've finally delved deep enough into Emily to relate to her words.

A kindred spirit! My lit crush on Emily Dickinson started in middle school and my first published poem (at age 13) was a cinquain. I wasn’t introduced to William Carlos Williams (and Imagism more broadly) until college.

I'm so pleased to hear it. I love cinquains and have had a few published but so long ago. I have most of the books mine are in. I used to have a poetry forum before online with some amazing poets involved in critique. I'd love to read yours. At 13 that's wonderful!

Here it is:

Springtime,
laughing loudly,
runs past my weary heart
then stops, looks back, and beckons me
to come.

I find it mildly humorous now, in my late middle age, that my 13-year-old self was burdened by a “weary heart”. In my youth, I felt very much like an old soul.
