Language is so influenced by our environment to. I'm Canadian but in the early 2000s I moved to Florida. With in months I was "fixin" to do stuff and y'all-ing all over the place. I love picking up new language and expressions from friends I meet, especially people from different places than mine.

Finna
Yinz
Y'all

I don't use any of them, but if you use any one of them, you can't complain about the others.

(I'm sure there's more common ones I'm missing. My ma was very strict with our grammar, so I stick to the standards. As long as I know what you're saying, I don't care how you say it).

EXACTLY...language people speak is a living, breathing thing that adapts to its environment. People who don't get this are not to be taken seriously.

Yup. If new words weren't constantly created & spread, dictionary publishers wouldn't add new ones every year

Words have a life story from first being coined, then cultural use, to official recognition. Some also change meaning over time and/or fall into disuse.

Just because it isn't official ...

I hadn’t heard of Finna before but I think that’s a great new word for me to learn. I’m also a fan of Yeet because it’s so fun to say!

Shakespeare made up all sorts of words. No different from people today. I love the English language. We have many words that are from other languages origins too!

I think Finna must be southern term because I didn’t know it existed until I hung out with folks from DC.
