A colleague is an alcoholic and has been sober for 2 years. She talks about alcohol and addiction frequently and at length in the office. Is this common with people in recovery, some way of staying on track? It’s getting tiresome, but I don’t want to upset someone who is struggling. #Addiction

hmmm..
one thought: maybe ask what her recovery community is like.
meetings she enjoys? does she have a home group? sober friends?
those are great spaces to process recovery aloud & center it. i wonder if she has enough of that kind of forum.

some folks do go through a “tell the world” phase though

Thanks for the thought. I know she goes to therapy and is involved in some sort of support group. Maybe it’s just not enough. She listens to so many podcasts and then regurgitates…

glad she’s on fire for recovery, at least. 😊

but yeah, it sounds to me like she’s hungry for fellowship, which is understandable.
AA meetings can be great for that.
since covid, many are online too — more options to shop around & find a group that you vibe with.
e.g., enjoy the same podcasts. 😁
