I just completed my last Octavia Butler novel. I read Kindred in January and have read her other 11 novels since (she has two books of short stories I've yet to read). I had never read sci fi and didn't expect it to hit so hard. To have so much humanity. To be so painful and so healing. #Books

She is an incredible author. Now read all the works of NK Jemisin, who was greatly influenced by her. Her Broken Earth trilogy is the only trilogy to have all 3 novels win consecutive Hugo Awards.

Her other trilogy is fantastic, too. Her short story collection How Long ‘Til Black Future Month? got me through the first month of COVID lockdown, one tale a day like a one-a-day vitamin.

I can't wait to dig in! I've also been recommended some fantasy authors recently (which I also haven't read). Any faves? I just picked up some Sarah Maas, Rebecca Yarros and another I'm forgetting at the moment.
