Do you eat the crabapples? My MIL use to make them into jellies and jams. She'd sneak a few bites in while she was chopping them up. Tried myself and they were way to tart for me.

My mom and grandma used to say eating crabapples would give you a bellyache, also- the green part of the cantaloupe rind . I do remember the jam !!

It is not that kind of crabapple. It does not produce edible fruit. The fruit are about the size of a marble and not human consumable.

Yep, in my case they said the edible ones would give you a bellyache. I have an ornamental pear that puts out the same kind of inedible berries as this crabapple blossom- which is beautiful !
