I've never been formally diagnosed with autism but my son has. And his mother and I were quite involved with his evaluation. In the process I was able to put two and two together, confirming what I suspected as far back as junior high when I told people I had "autistic tendencies".

remembered something from when I was quite young. I'm not sure if this is directly related to being ND or not. I learned to read before kindergarten and in the process I mentally assigned a gender to every letter. (I can't remember what all of them were now, but a few I still can.)

kindergarten there was a long display above the chalkboard with each of the letters shown as characters, with eyes, hair, limbs, etc. And they did NOT fit my internal notions of what they should be! And I found this quite upsetting.
