From personal experience, it seems there's a Union for every occupation; bank tellers, light plant employees, tradesmen (each and every kind) and its all tolerated day after day, strike after strike. C'est la goddamn vie dude!

Perhaps France has better employment protections. Many people in the US will risk their jobs by doing this (many, if not most employers will be unsympathetic). I'm not arguing against the likely necessity, just noting an obvious challenge to organizing mass demonstrations in the US.
