For over a decade some of us have been tooting this horn and all it would take is Democrats taking control of state houses to make it so. If I am not mistaken we are about 76 electorol votes away to do away with this anti-democratic system

Less actually:
"states have been signing up for several decades. With Maine, they’re at 209 Electoral College votes, and Michigan (with 16 Electoral College votes) will be the next state to join, as the National Popular Vote legislation is working its way through their legislature now." That's 225!
