Disability does not always mean "disabled." Disabled tends to be a legal definition, not a physical one. We've come up with all sorts of pejorative terms for people who don't meet the "standards" we set for human beings, standards which only exist to perpetuate the dominance of white "culture."

We don't fake what we have. We fake being well. We fake being "normal."

Though mine generally would not warrant a placard, mine is invisible, considered a "developmental" one (and definitely one in a NT-dominant society).

Let's face it, you can be the whitest person in the world and if you're in a wheelchair or have a speech impediment or cerebral palsy, that is used to "other" you. Our whole system is predicated on humanity only being applied to the "perfect."

Yep. There's a reason I put normal in air quotes. ;)

"Normal" is one fiction I'd love to erase. It's the catalyst for so many -isms, because you can adjust the definition to keep out any group you don't like and you can come up with any test you like to prove your particular group is "normal," or better yet, "better than normal."
