Probably more complicated but I think he brings them in not understanding the totality of his sleaze. Then they commit crimes or he gets compromising information on them and it's over.

And he never lets them forget he has them. White-collar prison probably seems an easy choice for them.

Organized crime. 😉 These folks know what they’re doing and who they’re dealing with. Serving time is a better option, when the alternative could be much “worse”.

My mom had the thought that, in Weiselberg's case, it may have had more to do with loyalty to the Broken Orange Man's late father. Stupid but understandable if so.

But the rest? Yeah, they just dumb. It's why SCOTUS, being slightly smarter, won't lift a finger for him.
