I'm sure some bank tellers are fine people, but banks in general are scum. Yesterday I deposited a check my wife wrote from her old account so we could e-file our taxes, and today I learned it's subject to an 11-day hold. I'd be fine with 3 days but 11? How are we supposed to pay April 15?

Yeah, this is a check from one credit union going into another. We're fortunate that we have enough in a retirement account to do an e-transfer, but 11 days ("9 business days," the guy protested) is indeed ridiculous.

Oh, absolutely. I was executor of my mom's estate last year and Bank of America put 12-day holds on six-figure deposits. Either they thought Fidelity cashier's checks would bounce or they were skimming off interest.
