You can also blame celebrities, who had their doctors prescribe it for them so they could lose weight and now insurers refuse to cover it for weight loss. These medications are now on a list of over 300 medications in short supply because the wealthy abused the system.

“If everybody had equal access, then this would be a way to help,” said Dr. Rocio Pereira, chief of endocrinology at Denver Health. “But without equal access — which is what we have now — it’s likely this is going to increase the disparity we see.”

It's not just celebrities.

You think wealthy folks who aren't famous aren't also abusing this?

Think again.

I know one personally. Has means & access. No diabetes. Just a love of overeating crap food & an aversion to do any excercise, while simultaneously wanting present herself as "attractive"

I’m sorry, I’m taking a smaller dose for diabetes and have nasty side effects that haven’t resolved with time. I can’t imagine taking the higher weight loss dose. Except that I’d shit myself thinner. I know of non rich folks taking it for weight loss until their 6 mo. Coupon expires.

An ex of a family member of mine takes it strictly for weight loss.
She's already many body parts lipo-ed, so taking a pill even with side effects doesn't bother her.

It’s not a pill, it’s an injection. $1000+ a month. With dramatic gastrointestinal side effects like projectile vomiting and anal leakage.

Mine was $440 for first month (no deductions), and is now $44/month until I hit Medigap. It’s stabilized my blood sugar and is lowering my A1C, but even .5mg gives me intestinal challenges.
