Does anyone on here have any personal experience with the prescription Paxil?
My doctor just prescribed it for my hot flashes and it doesn’t look like something I want…
My husband is freaking out because his ex-wife was bipolar and that’s what they gave her.
Any thoughts?

I didn’t go the Pharma route. I started taking some iodine to boost my thyroid (Optimox Iodoral) and a supplement from Wise Woman Herbals (Women’s Menocaps). They helped immensely and improved my sleep as well as reducing hot flashes.

I’ve tried many different things, but not iodine. No supplements have worked for me so far in any way. This is why I requested the hormone pills again.

Antidepressants are prescribed during menopause for hot flashes, not mood changes. That being said, sometimes drs overprescribed them because women be crazy 🙄 and modern medicine has very few treatments for menopause. Consider seeing a menopause specialist if you haven't already.

My only complaint was severe hot flashes that are worse than when they started in 2009 and vaginal dryness. She is sending me to an OB/GYN for vaginal dryness.

I'm not a doctor and I've never taken Paxil.
What I wanted to tell you is, many medications are used “off label.”
This means a medication usually prescribed for one condition is used for another. Please talk to your doctor as well as your pharmacist.

They are all Kaiser Permanente so… all I can do is send a note to my doctor. I did. Now I’ll wait.

I was on Paxil when I was 16 and it messed me up. There was a whole thing a few years later about all the people who were prescribed Paxil who it affected VERY adversely.

Not with that specific medication but sometimes your doctor will prescribe what is in your medical plan - not what’s right for you. Ask your doctor why this drug. You may have alternatives.
