I recently ran across a couple of riffs on walking a mile in someone's shoes. The first I saw on Twitter (I think -- I couldn't find the original). It was something like "You should walk a mile in my shoes, because then you'd be a mile away from me, and that would be fantastic. Keep the shoes."

The second was from a Reacher novel, "Gone Tomorrow" by Lee Child. It reads: "Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in his shoes. Then when you start criticizing him, you're a mile away and he's got to run after you in his socks."
