I found a Feb 1969 news article about her plans to demonstrate by burning gas company charge cards (they ended up cutting them, not burning them), and the editors huffed over how “this isn’t the right way to go about it” as news editors are wont to do in response to every demonstration ever.

At my mother's memorial, I told a story about the 1969 news, in light of my look at news stories of Suffragists. Same damn thing, news of demonstrations and editors scold 'em for not doing it right. Sheds light on current events, too.

Yet I see her 1969 protest in light of the work that followed…

An early community recycling program.

Decades of work to preserve the Upper Newport Bay from over-development, keeping it as a nature preserve.

Those editorial scolders did not know how these angry citizens would shape the local community in the decades to come.
