In 1837, a Ghanaian King, Nana Badu Bonsu ll, rebelled against the Dutch government in Ghana and killed several officers.

What followed was, the king was captured, sentenced for murder, and hanged. His body was desecrated as a Dutch surgeon removed his head.

The head was taken to the Netherlands, where it was soon lost for more than a century. For more than 150 years, King Bonsu's head was lost until an author found it stored in a jar of formaldehyde in a Dutch museum.
