As a kid I used to get it sometimes, because it was really cheap, had photos of pets & spaceships, & classified ads like "(huge number) Enquirer readers, each one send me $1, then I'll have $(huge number)", maybe offering a hamburger recipe in return, that made me think, "whoa, does that work?".

I remember as a child questioning my parents about why such reading material was allowed to be sold. Their answer, "Oh, nobody believes that stuff is real!"

Apparently, my folks widely overestimated the reasoning capabilities of the masses...
