Suppose that the former inmate is working full time (40 hrs.), he/she is being charged $6.25/hr. by the State of Florida for that prison bed now occupied by somebody else. Taking weekends into account, the victims of this scheme are being charged $8.75/hr. How are they to escape poverty?

JUST WTAF.

Florida is charging formerly incarcerated people $50 a day even if they’re no longer in prison. The “pay to stay” fee is based on the length of the original sentence, so even when they're released they must keep paying for a prison bed they’re not using.

In response to Ike K.
With eyes open you ultimately learn the problem is us, the greater public. We basically turn our backs on other humans the minute they betray the public trust. That blind eye gives license to a system ran by mostly vindictive, racist and hypocritical people, to enjoy their wildest, darkest dreams.
