I doubt Berlioz would have cared. He was quite the interesting fellow! He, Liszt and Wagner were constantly attacked for their program music. Even Bruckner, who was enthralled with Wagner's chromaticism, and whose music is not programmatic at all, was shunned by conservative music circles.
