Something I’ve found myself thinking about a bit recently is that while legit injustices exist, the potential to use civil disobedience or protest as a means of addressing injustices has gotten harder.

Like Jim Crow kept Black people from legally doing all sorts of things like eating in the white sections of restaurants or being able to vote. Which led to all sorts of obvious means to use civil disobedience to fight back against Jim Crow.

Like the obvious way to protest Jim crow was to do the thing that Jim Crow prohibited (like sit at the lunch counter). Now this wasn’t easy and civil rights activists practiced a lot and had to endure a lot of shit to succeed.

Civil disobedience only works in a democracy. The closer we move towards fascism, the less effective protesting becomes.

This is part of it. The other part is the next 2 generations after mass Civil disobedience were taught to sit, listen, and obey, the paternalistic leadership knows best. The country was equal now, the best in the world, and whoever had it bad deserved it. They replaced empathy with white Jesus.
