This will sound selfish but while my hubby and kids will celebrate with me, I feel like everyone going thru the motions as lamely as possible. I spend a ton of time trying to make theirs special but no reciprocation back. All I want is a surprise party once in my life and I know I'll never get it.

Does anyone else start feeling melancholy in the days leading up to your birthday? I don't know why that is...it's not about age (although when I think about where age ultimately leads I feel bad in a different way...)

That’s kind of what I feel too.

Hope it works out for you. I somehow came through for my wife last year when she turned 60. Otherwise it's a struggle for me, because I've not been interested in observing my own birthday since I was a kid.

I understand why. He's not a super social guy anyway. Thanks!
