The first time I ever left my dog alone, I returned to discover he was in the process of moving everything I owned into his crate. There was so much in there from bathroom towels to power chargers. When I walked in he froze with my pajamas in his mouth and looked at me like ooh, this is awkward.

Years ago my mom lifted up the chair in the living room to vacuum under it and found a bath towel (!), the insert for the kitchen sink food disposer, one of her rings, and a couple of other items. We had no idea our cat was a hoarder.

Ferrets swipe things. It is a known behavior. Everything must be kept 4 feet or more off the floor. Chairs near shelves or tables can also provide access. They have literally dozens of toys, but the thrill of the steal is part of the fun. They like going into their toy bin to "steal" & stash them.
