My vote- The Ford with the wood panel sides- nice touch. Probably early precursor to the woody looking station wagons.

I love the woody station wagons but what I’d really love was a Volkswagen Thing, dark green like this one but the a tan leather canopy and interior, and wood side panels. I saw it in my old home town and fell in love.

In real life wood bedracks were added by the owner to help keep things in the bed. We had them on all four sides of the bed but much higher, in order to transport small livestock, feed, seed, etc.

That makes sense! Design then seemed more practical in nature and you are correct that you would not want your things sliding or falling out.
