I have to disagree.

The appropriate response is to say, "Bullshit." Loudly. Especially if they're saying it in public.

You can explain why it's bullshit if you like (appropriate if there are other listeners), but letting them get away with this nonsense just emboldens them.

I'd vote for getting rid of it.

Modify the oath that enlisted service members take instead:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same."
