#PaintalongaBen progress! I’ve finally launched into the pattern painting on the top, starting today with the deep greens. This represents the bulk of a day’s work, which has left me with 1) a general sense of satisfaction so far & 2) a crick in my neck.
Next to fill in the finer details.

Ooh it’s a greenish bluish shirt. So pretty! Are you working with acrylics?

Yes! I almost always work with acrylics on a painting. Sometimes watercolours with small pieces. Can’t be doing with oils. Too much fuss and bother.
I was SO pleased when she turned up at the door wearing this!

I used to do watercolors with a hair dryer. But I hurt my back skating and now I can’t stoop over a painting for hours. So I’m trying out acrylics. But it dries too quickly! I’m using Winsor & Newton slow drying medium which is ok, and Golden Open paint. But still kinda frustrating!

I usually stand when I’m painting- saves your back and makes you think you’re not being lazy!
You can get stay wet palettes for acrylics which have blotting paper under the paint to keep it wet. I usually keep my mixes in old takeaway tubs with airtight kids to make them last longer!

I do use one of those Masterson palettes and spray every couple days when I water my plants. And the paint does stay wet. But it dries so quickly when applied to the canvas -- I have maybe 30 mins top to blend. My current project needs so much blending!
