I remember what it feels like to feel alone. As kid I was the only Black kid in my school. It’s not easy being different when you’re young.

Books w/people that look like you, words on paper that express thoughts like yours is everything. Book bans are not only wrong, they are cruel!

2/ He gave me a bracelet he’d made out of tumbled rocks; I held onto it for years. I often wonder what happened to him.

When I was in 5th grade, the first Black kids in the school, ever, enrolled. A brother and his little sister. He sat at the desk in front of me and was my first boyfriend. His sister was in my Brownie troop and she’d give me notes he’d written to me. Parents were not happy. I didn’t care.
