I eschew participation awards because they are antithetical to developing resilience. But legislation to ban them is, in the words of NC State Rep. Deb Butler, "preposterous and a colossal waste of time."

If a little league wants to waste money on trophies for all, so be it. Participation is voluntary; members pay to play.

NC taxpayers aren't paying for those trophies, but they are paying for the idiotic use of legislature resources. The physical waste is negligible in the larger picture.
