During the Great Depression, people made clothes out of food sacks – all kinds of sacks; flour bags, potato sacks, and anything made out of burlap. Because of this need, food distributors started to make their sacks more colorful to help people feel a bit more fashionable.

My mom's dad was a chicken farmer. As a kid, in the depression, she wore dresses made from used chicken feed sacks. The fabric was printed with flowers.
