Today's GOP is devoted to three ideas:

1) Power is only legitimate if Republicans wield it.
2) Power must be acquired by any means necessary.
3) The party is accountable to no one once it has it.

Folks, the Republican Party is rapidly becoming the American fascist party.

We have the same very disturbing story over here in the UK. Worryingly, the politicians that are bringing it about have connections to the US far right. Including the Prime Minister. First step, ignore the rule of law.

I would argue that "once they have it" in point 3 is incorrect and should be stricken, letting the remaining words stand on their own.

The answer to the question of do they believe in democracy is answered by the comment..." the US is not a democracy it is a constitutional republic" . They would love to get rid of the democracy part. Elitism, favouritism, privilege, birthright, "good genes" ... is their game. Heck with "all men"...

I'd say it already became the American Fascist Party in all but name, if not when Trump became the nominee, then at the very latest when the party decided to try to brush January 6th under the rug, and paint its perpetrators as victims and martyrs.

It started becoming the fascist party when it nominated Reagan.
He laid the groundwork for the republican party of today.

GRANDma isn't Right

In response to Robert Reich.
As a 60-year old Grandma, I'm scared as fuck that we are quickly losing any grasp of democracy we've ever had.
My 1/2 Japanese grandchildren could possibly live as adults under a different form of government.
If we ALL don't stand up to this, what kind of governing will you have?

I'm 67 & not-a-grandma here to reassure & ease your fear. I'm confident after this, democracy will prevail & continue even stronger. Pushback is strong. Honorable officials will convict with evidence, not lies. Far more good Americans than criminal, & as before, we grow better after troubled times.

Or the AUF, if you will. Kind of like the British Union of Fascists we in the UK had to deal with, during WW2.

In 1937, Langston Hughes declared: “We Negroes in America do not have to be told what fascism is in action. We know. Its theories of Nordic supremacy and economic suppression have long been realities to us.”

Hitler got all his white supremacist theories from British and American authors.
His demotion of Jews to second-class citizenship status was based on the US South's Jim Crow laws.
His plan to starve Ukraine and repopulate it with Germans was inspired by the US genocide of Native Americans.
