In school I found history boring, it was just names and dates. Then I began to read books like The Diary of Anne Frank and I began to find history interesting. What we didn't learn about slavery was criminal, how we honored people who bought, sold, raped and murdered other humans was inexcusable.

This book taught so many of us what it was like for Anne. Dates and battles are historical, but how an individual copes brings history alive.

Agree. History was all battles and dates in school. So boring. Then I started reading historical novels, and history came alive as I read about people's lives in those times. Fiction, as well as NF like The Diary of Anne Frank ties you in emotionally to those events in ways you don't forget.
