...and carmakers can be sued when their products kill and injure people.
Tort law deprives victims of guns the legal rights granted to victims of cars.

“Cars kill people too,” say the gun extremists?

Okay let’s play this game:

— Drivers must carry insurance
— Drivers must pass safety/skill tests
— Each car has a unique vehicle identification number (VIN) that allows it to be tracked

So let’s pass all the same rules for guns

I love this. We are reasonable people who make sensible, practical and logical decisions in the best interest of our fellow citizens. The GOP, on the other hand, are bat shit crazy, selfish, self-absorbed fear mongers who lack the ability to rub two neurons together to form a synapse.

GOPers are VERY rational. They do the bidding of the powerful to get a share of that power. But to satisfy their masters, GOPers must rule autocratically, not govern democratically. So they frighten their base with God, guns, racism & homophobia, because fear makes people tribal & submissive.

With all due respect, what you describe doesn't fit the definition of rational. The GOP's actions and words are nonsensical, out of touch with mainstream and fear based. They succeed through misinformation, gerrymandering and deceit. Plain and simple. The end is coming, the sooner the better.

GOP uses irrationality to achieve rational goals. By inspiring fear in religious people with authoritarian mindsets, they lead wage-earners to vote by their prejudices instead of their economic interests.
GOP policies like tax cuts for the wealthy are impossible to pass any other way.
