My administrator suggested teachers are burned out & leaving the profession due in part to Covid 19. I’m so proud of myself for not flinching & instead saying: “actually, it’s the guns.” We can’t talk about the constant stress we feel because not wanting to die has been oddly politicized.

I have friends who left because of the guns AND the censorship AND the parents who think they know better than educators but also don't want to be responsible for anything.

There are a multitude of very legitimate reasons for any teacher to chose to leave. But when I said “it’s the guns” she turned white as a ghost. It’s the thing teachers everywhere are not allowed to say. We don’t even talk about school shootings the next day. Not one damn peep. It’s toxic.

that's horrible (that you can't/don't talk about it) Most of my extended family including my parents were in public education for decades, and I can't even imagine them having to put up with this insanity now. I'm so sorry.
