Feeling uneasy about the #Padres new sombrero in the dugout. Yes, we played well in Mexico, but are we genuinely respecting the hat or appropriating it?

And the pinata locker room celebration is a definite no for me. What do we think, baseball fans?

Confusing. When the cultural appropriation line gets crossed badly, it makes me cringe--so I know there's a line. But historically, cultures shared and influenced each other in all sorts of ways. Often that was a good thing.

Where's the line? I'd love to have help figuring that out.

Thanks for your thoughtful reply, Dan.

The sombrero felt okay while they were playing in Mexico, perhaps a nod to our shared culture in the borderlands. But now it's feeling like a "lucky" object taken from Mexico for baseball superstition, which feels appropriative to me.

I share your intuition on this. But for me it’s intuition. I can’t articulate where and when the line gets crossed.
