Obvious self-consciousness. Usually due to either incompetence, a lack of emotional investment in the job, or trying too hard.

Obvious self-conscious...first thing that comes to mind is Wiley Wiggins in dazed And Confused (guy who played Mitch).

Also, relying on physical actions to hide uncomfortable non-talking moments.

The first performance that popped to mind was Keanu Reeves in "Bram Stoker's Dracula." He was so young and so desperate to prove he had range beyond Ted/Johnny Utah, and that anxiety shines through in nearly every frame.
