Just had a 5.5 #earthquake 100 miles north of Sacramento CA today.

It's interesting how many people here freak out over a small quake.

Have you ever experienced an Earthquake before? 🤔🐳

I was living in Oakland a few miles from the freeway collapse during the Loma Prieta quake. I had been through about a dozen quakes before, but this one was different - it just went on and on. My roommate's 50lb lab jumped into her arms.

NYC - I remember 3 small ones.
1980s - we felt the ground rumble as we were walking to the train.
2001. It sounded like a trunk rumbling late at night. We were in Manhattan the quake was in Brooklyn.
2011. We were at NYU's cancer center radiation Department. Didn't hear or feel it.

Originally from the UK, and we don’t tend to get earthquakes, so when I experienced one in Ontario it was a weird feeling, it wasn’t until I walked out in the backyard and saw that the pool had waves going up and down it that I really believe that it happened.

Live on a fault line up here in Ottawa. We get them every couple years. Most are so small we don’t notice them, although we did have one that cracked my brick chimney a few years ago. We also get the occasional tornado touchdown. I’m quite happy these are both rare events for us.

The biggest one was a 6.7 in Tokyo and nobody batted an eye. I had to leave the hotel cause it wouldn’t stop moving. 41st floor didn’t help either. More sea sick than scared. #earthquake

Yea, Japan has some of the best construction, we use a lot of the same building methods in CA, older brick buildings are bad for this, but newer homes i have seen tested on shake tables up to 7.0 with minimal damage.

I was on the SF Bay Bridge in 89 and used to help in disasters. But for those that have never experienced it, it can be scary if they are big.

Funny story. I'm from Kentucky and once went to a class with some guys from California. And I told them how scared I would be in an earthquake, that I couldn't live there. And they told me they were way more scared of tornadoes and they didn't understand how i lived here lol. It's what your used to.

Yep. Very mild one but enough to tell you it’s extremely unsettling and I don’t want to know more than that!
