An honest day’s pay for an honest day’s work.

It wasn’t available to everyone, but it brought security & happiness to those that were part of it.

Two primary things have changed: 1) Buying power has effectively decreased. 2) common things have dramatically increased in price. College, houses, cars, food, medical care - all up massively. My wife was born in 1965 and the bill for her birth from the hospital was a few hundred dollars.

Strictly speaking that's the best my dad has, he dropped out of college. My mom had a master's degree in elementary education but was a stay-at-home mom. However my dad's parents had some money and my dad owned his own business so there was some generational wealth involved as well.
