#historicalfiction #HistoricalNovelBS The amount of time it takes to travel on horseback from any one place to another is vastly underestimated by people today. Even if you ride horses on the reg. So many “quest” stories fail to address the realities of saddle soreness for both horse and rider.

Excellent point! I have had some of my characters ride around in Europe and all the way to the city of Jerusalem (12th century and 13th century) and had to hunt around for information on the time required and the challenges. I tried to err on the side of overestimating travel times.

That’s so cool! I love that Google maps exists now. Lol. I use it and turn it to the bicycle setting to get an idea of how long a trip on a horse would take. Just guessing that if a bike can do it, a horse can. Lol.
