"Democrats didn't insert their promised $15 minimum wage or public health insurance option into the debt deal.

They inserted a massive fossil fuel pipeline into the deal, after the pipeline company became one of SenSchumer's top donors.

It's a real stretch to claim that Biden doesn't take climate seriously. Those thumping their chests about what he should have done have no concept of what negotiation is about and no concept of what he pulled off.

The pipeline flies in the face of Biden's pledge to fight for climate action.

Negotiating with extortionists is now acceptable?

How is this so easily acceptable to most Democrats?

Progressive goals like that DO NOT HAPPEN while the filibuster exists. Which does not change while Manchin/Sinema control the balance of power in the Senate. Neither Biden, Schumer, or anyone else can magically change that math. Only election results- which condemning the Democrats undermines.

Progressives have been urging the US President to use his power, expand the court, invoke the 14th amendment since these times are not normal. There are other options besides voting all Republicans out.

The US President has powers that Biden refuses to invoke. There were other options. In politics things are never simple.

The idea that a 15 dollar minimum wage or public option were or could ever have been on the table in a debt ceiling deal is absurd. Its meant to create a false narrative of Democratic betrayal, presumably to convince progressives to stay home/protest vote, helping MAGA win.

Next time we hit the debt ceiling & there’s a GOP POTUS, Hold THEM hostage, which we’ve never done. Higher taxes on the wealthy or we go off the cliff.

Amid the worsening climate crisis, Joe Biden tonight did the first Oval Office address of his presidency to announce legislation expediting a massive fossil fuel pipeline. - David Sirota

I think there is some miscalculation here. Schumer wasn't a negotiator. probably the pipeline went in so that Manchin has a better chance to be reelected and so that Manchin could repay Biden with a vote or withholding an objection to something in the future. Min wage would probably have doomed it.

But we have Democrats agreeing to take food from the poor.

Some believe the 14th A would have been a better route by not giving in to their extortion.

How much did the public get to weigh in. How are the work requirements affecting poor individuals, have you heard?
