what do you do when a system you've been part of your entire life, and value, has a large number of people who are.... not really abiding by what you were taught were its tenets?

I can't stop being a Christian (though I admit my doubts are stronger than years ago) but also: if people are going to be awful &still wave the banner of Christ, I don't want to ally with them. I don't want to call myself that any more if what people think when they see me is "she's one of THEM"

It makes me angry because the church when I was growing up was one of the few places I fit in and felt loved by other than my family. But now some folks want to ruin that too.

Only you know what's in your heart. All religions include people who bastardize them. It's not now and never has been about the church. It's about action. It's about living your beliefs. It's about knowing what is true for you, acting in a way that supports that and leaving the rest behind.
