While suppressing black people wasn't the reason the Second Amendment was adopted by the majority, the situation of the State being able to suppress a slave insurrection WAS mentioned in the debates over the Bill of Rights as a pro-2A point.

And I'm not saying the militia wasn't used for that purpose, or that it didn't come up in the debates (it did) but a large part of the debate on this was standing army v a military force that lived and worked alongside other civilians.
