World Series of #poker - a thread

This is the time of year I used to go to Vegas for the WSOP. Last time was 2019. 2 years of COVID pandemic, then mom's hospice care, then this fall's crazy expensive European tour is keeping me away again. So I will reminisce.

One thing to understand about the WSOP is how thrilling it is to be in interconnected ballrooms with 1000's of other players, all trying to advance, stay alive, make the $, win. It is like the biggest Opening Night you ever experienced, on steroids.

Poker players are competitive but also supportive AF. When your friends are doing well & you're out, you cheer them on. I remember calling out cards that my friend Colin needed - "spade! Spade!!" - the first time I railed a friend. Here is Julie, a bestie, who got to 27/5916 in the Seniors.

If your friends are REALLY killing it, you might even fly to Vegas to sit in their televised cheering section. I had just come back so I couldn't return but my homeboy Krazy Mike made $340,000 in the 2017 WSOP Main Event & bunches of pals were there for him.

When you're in Vegas during the series, you're never alone because you run into friends all the time. My pal Mike Kennedy bought me a sweatshirt when I was shivering in the Arctic a/c. You share planes, taxicabs, meals with acquaintances. And you get text msgs with advice, comfort, & attagirls.

It is weird how your homies are practically on top of you sometimes. I once played at the Golden Nugget where 6 out of 9 players at my table were from #Cleveland , one the construction guy remodeling my friend Faye's bathroom. At the Super Seniors Tommy from CLE got seated on my right out of 1200.

I'll miss the Seniors Event, even the hilarious bathroom breaks, 6000+ guys with prostate issues lining up for a half hour. It may be the only place in the world that the woman's bathroom line is shorter. I once tried to go in the "All Genders" line & the men almost had a cow.

Here is a Bellagio centerpiece in honor of my friends who are out there this year. I hope you all kill it. See you next year.

2 more photos: my payout ticket for a WSOP side event Deepstack, 22nd out of 1426 players, a thrill, & my poker peeps toasting me at 2:30 am after. They literally woke everyone up in our party of 10, jumping on each other's beds until all got up, to drink & laugh with me until after dawn.

Thank you! I'm glad to know it's happening now -- will check for where and when it airs. (Fun thread!)

Thanks! Usually the Main Event is on ESPN but there are streaming channels, too. We watched Krazy Mike on PokerGo.
